Welcome Rachel Roberts, Music Teacher
Welcome, Rachel Roberts to Our Lady of the Elms as a music teacher for all divisions. Rachel’s musical career spans 17 years as a guitarist and singer-songwriter. She has written, produced and published five albums and copyrighted 56 original songs. Miss Roberts has a Bachelor of Arts in English from The University of Akron and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from NEOMFA.
Most recently, Rachel has been a Graduate Instructor of Composition at The University of Akron. In addition to her musical endeavors, Miss Roberts worked with and volunteered for several non-profits including The Akron Soul Train, Downtown Akron Partnership, The Band and Clatter Theater, Lock 3 and Akron Civic Theater.
Kevin Kelly, Academic Dean at Our Lady of the Elms, shares, “Rachel brings a fresh approach to our music program. I believe her skills will empower our students to write their own music and learn the basics of musical composition.”
When asked about her approach to the classroom, Miss Roberts shares, “I look forward to giving students an opportunity to explore their own relationship with music through movement, vocals, rhythm, and personal expression. Music can be an individual experience, but in the classroom, it is a group effort. Every voice, instrument, clap, toe tap, and hum can work together to create a joyful noise—one that lets us know we belong. I hope learning to be creative together will promote camaraderie, teamwork, and positive peer support.”
