Our Lady of the Elms School Foundation
Our Lady of the Elms School, an Ohio non-profit corporation, was founded and, for many years, led and operated by the (Akron) Sisters of St. Dominic of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (in 2009, they merged to become Dominican Sisters of Peace). The Dominican Sisters made valuable contributions to the School's existence, and in November of 2024, they passed sponsorship for the School to a new, national Dominican organization. The Elms community extends gratitude to the Sisters for these humble beginnings and looks with anticipation and joy to the future.
The School's mission remains deeply rooted in the four Dominican pillars of community, service, study and prayer. The Elms of today is thriving as an excellent educational option for girls and young women within the greater Akron area. With 300 students enrolled representing six Ohio counties (Summit, Stark, Wayne, Cuyahoga, Medina and Portage), the Elms community of learners is committed to educating every student who can thrive in our academically demanding, college prep environment.
In order to fill the gap between tuition and the actual cost of providing this transformational educational experience -- and to maintain our commitment to remaining need-blind -- the School must secure funding to underwrite key priority areas: faculty compensation and professional development; technological upgrades; athletics teams and academic clubs; and maintenance of our beautiful, safe, urban campus. In furtherance of our mission, in 2023, in tandem with the 100th anniversary of its founding, the School established the Our Lady of the Elms School Foundation. The Foundation is operated exclusively to support the Elms and its commitment to Dominican Catholic education of girls and young women in Northeast Ohio.
