Fine and Performing Arts  

The Elms believes that arts education is essential for all students.  Art courses are available are available to all students at every grade level from basic courses through intermediate to advanced levels. Students who come from multicultural backgrounds have an opportunity to share their heritage and thus enrich the entire program.  As students progress in their knowledge and experience of the arts, they not only benefit from the enjoyment and satisfaction gained through their accomplishments, but they benefit from the realization that they have used their God-given talents to enhance their lives and the lives of others.

The Elms offers a variety of course offerings and extracurricular activities in the arts, including choir, drama, dance, technical theater, visual arts, yearbook and newspaper.

Fine Arts

There is great opportunity at the Elms for the dedicated art student to pursue and display her talents and develop her aesthetic potential in our Middle and Upper School fine arts program.  Our fine arts instructors endeavor to introduce students to the wonders of all art forms, foster their talents, and prepare them for the rigors of college art courses.

Theater

Rivaling other local programs, the Elms is known throughout the Akron area for its fun and professional productions.  Our facility includes a state-of-the-art main stage theater and top of the line sound and lighting technology.  If you are interested in performance or technical support, the opportunities to utilize our facility are endless.

We produce one play or musical each spring.  Our active Drama Club performs small-scale student shows.  If you love to perform there is always an outlet for you whether you are just starting out or have been performing for years.

Every show stage is designed and constructed by Elms students.  Whether you've picked up a tool before or not you can gain experience and confidence working on our annual production. Our goal is to give as many students an opportunity to be involved as we possibly can. Not only do we strive to put on professional quality productions, but we teach the importance of fun, responsibility, leadership, teamwork, and self-confidence. We strive to create an atmosphere in our productions that allow students to step outside their comfort zones, take risks and ultimately become more confident and creative young women.

Choir

The mission of our choirs is to develop a passion for music, create a place for expressing the music in your heart, and to expand one’s vocal range.  In addition, participants learn the values of artistry, effort, and camaraderie.  Our program is comprised of three different choirs:  Elms Ensemble, Chamber Choir (audition only) and Encores (show choir and audition only).
