Inter-generational Program
Our Lady of the Elms preschool, pre-k and kindergarten classes are continuing their Inter-generational Program in partnership with Rockynol Ohio Living Center and Our Lady of the Elms Convent.
This program brings together elderly adults and young children to counterbalance the loneliness and boredom that so often characterize life in a nursing facility and to foster young children’s social and emotional development. During their weekly visits, students sing, dance, and create crafts with rehab patients and assisted living residents. Kristen Yee started this program in the Fall 2017 and shares, “I have seen many positive effects over the two years from both the students and their elderly friends. I was also invited to the 2018’s Educating Girls Symposium to present my program to other educators around Northeast Ohio.”
